PAL™ – Pulsed Alexandrite Laser

PAL™ Pulsed Alexandrite Laser System by Light Age, Inc.

Modular in design and based on a sophisticated, yet simple, flashlamp pumped Solid-state source, the PAL™ laser system is extremely reliable as well as versatile

It’s actually simpler than the fixed wavelength lasers used to pump other tunable laser sources.

It is extremely low-maintenance. Nearly all of the PAL™ laser systems sold since 1989 are still in productive operation today, as are most of the OEM laser systems from Light Age. Based on alexandrite (Cr±:BeAl2O4), the most robust, tunable solid-state laser medium, the PAL™ laser system can tune continuously or operate at any fixed wavelength. The PAL™ laser system produces light at high peak and average power across fundamental wavelength range between 720 and 800 nm.

PAL™ – Pulsed Alexandrite Laser

Efficient nonlinear frequency conversion processes provide complete spectral coverage from the VUV to the deep IR. Second, third and fourth harmonic generators provide light in the 360-400 nm, 240-270 nm, and 190-200 nm wavelength ranges, respectively.

All other wavelengths throughout the UV, visible, and IR are readily achievable utilizing Light Age’s patented high power ARC™ (Advanced Raman Convertor) accessories.

ARC™ Advanced Raman Convertor

The Light Age 101 PAL-RCs (ARC™) are a family of state-of-the-art, compact, high pressure Raman Convertors capable of extending the tuning range of Light Age PAL™ tunable lasers in the UV, VIS and IR. They also extend the wavelength range of pulsed Dye lasers, Excimer lasers, Nd:YAG lasers, Ruby lasers, Ti:Sapphire lasers, and OPO’s. A unique gas recirculation system minimizes thermo-optic effects, permitting operation at power levels unachievable in any other commercial Raman Shifter.

Diode Laser Injection Seeder

The new sdlistate-of-the-art in high power, ultra-narrow bandwidth light generation. The ideal source for fast high resolution spectroscopic and LIDAR applications.

Description

The LAI 101 PAL-DLIS Diode Laser Injection Seeder is a revolutionary new way to control the frequency of tunable solid state-lasers. Typically, laser frequency is controlled by introducing intra-resonator loss using prisms, etalons or gratings. The unique DLIS system works by injecting photons of the correct spectral characteristics into the pulsed laser resonator. This provides the ultimate in high pulse energy frequency stabilized narrow bandwidth sources.

With the DLIS, our PAL™ laser systems provide tunable, nearly transform limited pulses, ideal for high resolution spectroscopy or LIDAR. Typical linewidths are under 200 MHz. With the frequency stabilization option the output frequency of the laser can be locked to atomic or molecular resonances, or to a scannable Fabry-Perot reference etalon. Output energy exceeds 350 mJ/pulse, and the high power output can be efficiently frequency converted with our wavelength conversion accessories to provide tunable narrow bandwidth light at almost any wavelength.

LAI 101 Pulse Stretcher

pulsestretcherAvoid fiber damage! Control laser material interactions! Now laser pulse duration, as well as energy and wavelength, can be continuously varied. Full pulse energy is delivered at reduced peak power.

The LAI 101 PAL-PSTR Pulse Stretcher provides, quite literally, a new dimension in laser performance. Laser pulse duration, as well as pulse energy and wavelength, can now be continuously controlled. This permits laser peak power to be fixed as pulse energy is varied, or conversely, peak power to be varied at nearly constant pulse energy. Pulse duration can be continuously varied over the very important range from about 100 nsec to several microseconds. Using these stretched pulses, optical fiber energy damage thresholds are dramatically enhanced in both the PAL™ fundamental (720-800 nm) and second harmonic (360-400 nm) spectral regions. The fundamental wavelengths are well suited for studies of optical fiber transmission and loss, optical damage, nonlinear optical processes, and for medical research and applications including lithotripsy and laser tissue interactions. The shorter, UV wavelengths are of potential importance in photolithography, photochemistry, and medical applications such as dentistry, angioplasty, and general surgery. The LAI 101 PAL-PSTR provides a fiber optic deliverable near UV source with an average power approaching 0.5 watts.

2nd, 3rd, 4th Harmonic Generators

Harmonic GeneratorsThe highest intensity solid-state source of tunable UV lasers. Replaces excimer lasers, UV ion lasers, and dye lasers for photochemistry, LIDAR, photolithography, Fiber Bragg Gratings, UV interferometry, and other applications of scientific lasers.

The Light Age family of nonlinear optical frequency generators exploits the full capabilities of recently developed materials to achieve exceptional conversion efficiencies. The LAI 101 PAL-SHG Second Harmonic Generator delivers up to 200 mJ of tunable UV (360-400 nm) radiation at a repetition rate of 20 Hz when used alone with a LAI 101 PAL™ laser. The addition of a LAI 101 PAL-THG produces up to 50 mJ of light tunable over the deep UV (240-267 nm) including 248 nm UV lasers and in the fourth harmonic 193 nm UV lasers. The THG contains a proprietary polarization conditioning element (patent pending) and operates in concert with the SHG to yield close to a watt of deep UV laser radiation. Custom crystals and coatings are available for doubling Raman shifted output at other wavelengths.
